Nusakambangan Island

Island, any area of land smaller than a continent and entirely surrounded by water Islands may occur in oceans, seas, lakes, or rivers. The island has a population of 10,800, and its principal towns are Spanish Wells, the wealthiest colony in the Bahamas; Harbour Island, a resort island with clear water and a pink-tinged beach; Gregory Town, the locale of the island’s Pineapple Festival; Governor’s Harbour, a typical tropical town with history and charm; and Tarpum Bay, an artists’ community where, among others, artists Mal Flanders, an American, and MacMillan Hughes, a Scotsman, went to paint the scenery.islandisland

When sea levels dropped during the Pleistocene ice age, Bali was connected to Java and Sumatra and to the mainland of Asia and shared the Asian fauna, but the deep water of the Lombok Strait continued to keep Lombok and the Lesser Sunda archipelago isolated.island

So if the resort business is not viable, then the island is only worth what it can be sold for as just an island to be used for personal-only purposes (unless you are government, and believe in reimbursing people for their failed investments, and in this case apparently an attempt also for a failed good-will premium).

The Island was just mentioned over a family lunch yesterday and my mother has wondered all these years what has become of it. I was very surprised to see the Island up for sale and being developed when I googled it. I would be appreciative for any information you have on the history of ownership and the obvious selling of the Island through the years.

Two species of primates occur in the island: the Crab-eating Macaque, known locally as kera” quite common around human settlements or temples, where they became accustomed to people feeding them, particularly in any of the three so called monkey forest” temples, with the most popular one in Ubud area.
