Goals

Buying women’s mountain bikes is not that different from buying mountain bikes for almost anyone. So as part of creating the new site, we want to take the time – and make use of the skills of the writers we work with – to go back and document the history of this project so far, so that anyone discovering Dark Mountain online can get a fuller sense of what it is and what it has done.

Don’t think for a minute the park is the only attraction as Western North Carolina is an outdoor adventure paradise with options that include world class white water rafting, phenomenal single track mountain biking, nail biting motorcycle drives, adventure thrill-seeking ziplining, rich culture experiences, unparallelled mountain golfing, stunning waterfalls, serine mountain stream fly fishing, and the list goes on.

The best part about the charming Mountain Home Inn—besides the views, the spacious, comfortable rooms with fireplaces or private decks, and the gourmet food—is its location.Trails heading out in various directions are literally right out the door: to the top of Mt. Tamalpais, down to Muir Woods, across the mountain to Stinson Beach, down through a pine forest to Mill Valley.

There is a sense of profound reverence as you gaze out at the view, knowing that the only people to see it have climbed the very mountain you stand on. Your own goals will feel the same way – the fact that you have worked for them gives them deeper meaning, makes them worth the effort.

Every time I drive into the North Cascades National Park I read a park sign that says The North Cascades-The Alps of America.” This has always struck a spiteful chord in my dark side and I have dreamt of vandalizing this sign to read The Cascades of America”.
